Written Works
Through the pursuit of my Communication Arts degree and my Digital Studies certificate, both programs have offered me opportunities to mesh my love for digital production with my love for writing. This has predominantly occurred in the form of scripts, but I have included my creative writing portfolio at the bottom as a bonus! Enjoy!

Halloween Special Script
In the fall of my junior year, I took an advanced production course called COMARTS 466: Writing For Television and Film, one of my all-time favorite classes at UW. In this class, I studied famous Hollywood screenplays and learned about script formatting and writing, which combined my passion for writing with my love for digital production. One of our projects stemmed from our study of writing comedy, which is a difficult task when humor is applied and interpreted differently from person to person. To gain insight into this practice, I was put into a group with two of my classmates to write an original episode of the sitcom Modern Family where I wrote the storyline for the characters Cam and Mitchell with the Celtx software. Our challenge was to embody the character-driven style of comedy presented in the show and to integrate our storyline with those of the two other families, which were written by my partners Alexzander Wilson and Ta Vang. This process occurred over three weeks, which included coming up with our concepts, writing our storylines, interweaving the three storylines together, and then receiving feedback from our classmates. I really enjoyed this process as creative writing is my favorite form of artistic expression, and I was proud of my ability to mimic the comedic style of the characters I was assigned in a newly imagined piece.
Fealty Script
Within the same course as my Halloween Special Script, I also had the task of writing my own complete script, the only requirement being a minimum of 10 pages. With the Celtx software and the foundational tools I gained about structural storytelling, my final script, titled "Fealty", tells a story about Intimate Partner Violence (viewer discretion advised). I wrote, received feedback, and revised this piece over the course of two months. The goal of this piece was simply to be a creative outlet and to do justice to a narrative that has held significant weight in my life, and I am proud to say I felt I achieved that by the end of the process! The most difficult part of this project was ensuring that the various scenes flowed for an outside viewer, since my perception of the story was easily skewed by constantly reimagining and rewriting concepts and visuals as I went along. I am incredibly passionate about writing, so intertwining my favorite form of expression with the field I plan to enter was truly invigorating.

Creative Writing Portfolio
Although not directly tied to digital media, I felt the creative writing portfolio from my English course junior year would be an important piece of work to include for a well-rounded representation of the projects I’ve created over the years! With creative writing assignments every week, my professor Josh Kalscheur offered us prompts based on our readings, but ultimately gave us free rein to write about whatever struck inspiration. The focus of this course was to write and study primarily short fiction stories and poetry, my favorites of which are included here. This was a very vulnerable experience, which was especially tricky to share with peers, but our class was so collaborative and filled with unique ideas and feedback that I grew to really look forward to receiving their thoughts on my work. As I’ve mentioned, writing is my truest form of self-expression, so this project was empowering to partake in an academic setting.
